The short story “The One Man Band” took place at a plaza in some old english village. The story starts with a girl roaming around the centre of the plaza which lies a fountain where people throw coins and make wishes. When she was about to throw the coin, a musician approaches her where the musician entertains the little girl by playing all sorts of instruments, mostly percussions, all by himself at the same time. She was greatly entertained by the man and decided to give the musician the money. Suddenly, another musician came out of nowhere, he opened a poster of him and started to gain attention of her. The second musician performed his routine with his violins, and performed with a slightly different style, unlike the first musician who looked unorganized. This causes an outburst to the first musician. Then the two musicians started to compete with each other in order to attract attention of the little girl. As the competition rages, the musicians unintentionally scared her and caused her coin to fall in to the drain. This is where the element irony took place. The musicians competed with each to win over the coin, but in the end the girl demands payment from the two musicians because her coin fell of the drain and both of them are responsible for the loss of her coin.
